Welcome to Birdsong.

Fashion is more than just clothing – it’s a powerful form of self‑expression and a catalyst for change.
Consider the Black Panthers’ berets: a simple accessory that became a symbol of resistance and unity.
But while fashion has the potential to inspire, it also has detrimental effects on people and the planet – from exploited women workers, to toxic materials and production practices that are ravaging our environment.
We don’t want to abandon fashion; we want to transform it.
As Vivienne Westwood wisely said:
"Buy less, choose well, make it last."
We want to normalise the concepts
of repairing, refurbishing and upcycling.
When it comes to buying new, we support businesses that are committed to ethical and sustainable practices.
After pausing our own garment production back in 2023, Birdsong is carefully restarting in a new way: rescuing high‑quality deadstock and surplus pieces that were destined for landfill and giving them a second life with thoughtful Birdsong designs.
We work with local, women‑run studios in East London to add considered embroidery and finishing details, in tiny runs that respect people, craft and the planet.
Each revived garment is a small protest against waste and a reminder that you don’t need to choose between your values and what you wear.
By supporting this initiative, you'll be helping reduce the devastating environmental impact of excessive waste.
Birdsong is committed to being part of the solution
in two key ways:
-
We rescue and revive. We source garments that would otherwise be discarded and transform them into limited, long‑lasting pieces with Birdsong’s signature slogans and designs – made in collaboration with local makers & produced in low volumes to minimise waste.
-
We partner and share. We collaborate with businesses that prioritise repairing, refurbishing & recycling everyday items and we share practical tips and resources to help you make more sustainable choices in your daily life. Together, our small actions can create significant change.
If your brand is holding deadstock and wants to reduce the negative impact of sending it to landfill, we’d love to talk about giving it a second life through Birdsong designs – please get in touch at info@birdsong.org.uk.
